Kim Charteris – Wright: Director

Kim is an experienced & qualified human resource training & development specialist who is passionate about people development & believes that every individual holds the key to his or her personal success. Kim has worked with small to medium businesses for the last 12 years as a human resources manager, training & development manager, coach, mentor, & experiential trainer & facilitator.  Working in New Zealand, United Kingdom, Asia, Central & South America, Kim has gained a wealth of knowledge & experience, which spans across cultures & all levels within an organisation.

Her ease with people & natural enthusiasm, along with effective communication & relationship building skills enables Kim to work with organisations to identify their human resources & training & development needs & align these needs with practical, hands on, best practice solutions.

  • BCom(Hons), University of Otago, majoring in Human Resource Management & Employee Relations
  • Honours dissertation – designing learning events within outdoor management training (OMT) “The design of an outdoor learning event so specific learning takes place and how this learning is then effectively transferred back to the workplace.”

Chris Charteris-Wright: Director

Chris is an expert facilitator of personal, leadership & team development. He employs a dynamic and innovative approach to empowering the individual to self-awareness, building team spirit and organisational synergy. Chris is able to create metaphoric learning opportunities that are transferable and applicable to the individual and organisations development. Chris has instructed & facilitated individuals & teams for the last 18 years in the corporate, educational, academic, and outdoor spheres. His extensive work experience both nationally and internationally allows Chris to be a highly effective & versatile communicator & facilitator at all levels of the personal & professional playing field.

Denis Orel: Human Resource Consultant

Denis is a qualified human resource consultant with a background degree in Sociology completed in her home country, Slovenia. Denis has a real passion for people, cultures and travel. These three things plus her love for her partner brought her to New Zealand where she has been a proud member of the Free Spirit team for the last few years.

Her enthusiasm and desire to empower individuals and teams through providing excellent training and service allows Denis to work with individuals and organisations in human resources and training & development areas.
Working in customer service, office administration & employment relations along with years of travel and passion for other cultures and societies enables Denis to share her personal and professional knowledge and experience with other people, teams and organisations.

Jasmine McFarlane: Business Support Manager

Jasmine supports the team at Free Spirit. With her positive energy and enthusiasm along with her background in finance support and office administration enables everything to run smoothly within our busy organisation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts (Political Studies), University of Otago
  • Assistant Coordinator of Her Business Network New Zealand

David Seath: Senior Consultant

David started work for a "big four" accountancy firm in London in 1993. He rose to the level of Senior Manager before emigrating to New Zealand to pursue his love of the outdoors. He spent 2005 and 2006 studying Outdoor Education at Aoraki Polytechnic and used this time to obtain Level 1 awards from the New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Association (NZOIA) in Bush, Rock and Alpine disciplines.

David combines his corporate experience with his outdoor education skills via facilitating team development and team building events with a strong experiential focus.  He also instructs a wide variety of outdoor activities for tertiary education institutions. He is a keen rock climber and mountaineer who loves sharing his passion for the outdoors with others.

  • BSc (Hons) First Class Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Durham University
  • Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales
  • Advanced Certificate in Outdoor Recreation and Leadership, Aoraki Polytechnic

  • New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Association qualified in Level 1 Bush, Rock and Alpine disciplines

Peter McLachlan : Surfing Instructor

Peter has been surfing the New Zealand South Island rugged coastline for 30 years. In this time Peter has studied weather and wave conditions extensively enabling him to predict accurately surf conditions at our many breaks.

His passion for people & surfing enables him to take other like-minded people to unique and remote locations to share the exhilaration that is surfing. Peter has also an extensive personal & professional experience in surf coaching & is a qualified emergency first aider. His occupations outside Free Spirit Training & Development are surfboard maker and commercial fisherman.
