Itinerary

Thursday 28th April

Meet at 9.00am outside the international Department at Otago University. Jump into your personal 12-seater coach with your fellow explorers and drive to New Zealand's stunning Catlins wilderness. En route visit stunning Kaka Point & soak in the breath taking views at the Nugget Point lighthouse. Wander the white sands of Cannibal Bay. Visit the dramatic Jack's blowhole before arriving at Lenz Reserve Forest & Bird Lodge, your idyllic accommodation for the next 3 nights. The Lodge enjoys a unique setting where you can experience primordial rain forest, white sandy beaches & stunning waterfalls. From your veranda you can listen to the Tui, Bellbird and Bush Robin while the background noise of the Southern ocean speaks of rugged coastlines and adventure. Explore the hidden lagoons and forest environment that surround. Later, take part in a gourmet meal and socialise over a wine while the evening call of a Morepork (native New Zealand owl) serenades the night.

Friday 29th April

Breakfast on pancakes and bacon topped with fresh fruit, yoghurt and sweet delights. Explore the Cathedral Caves and help to support forest preservation through alternative land use. Enjoy the serenity of the Lake Wilkie boardwalk; plant your footprints on the long stretch of beach at Tautuku Bay, soak in the smells and sounds of the lush native bush en route, explore local waterfalls, relax, enjoy and just be!

Saturday 30th April

Visit Porpoise Bay for a look at the dolphins and marvel at the World Heritage Park's "Petrified Forest". Picnic at Curio Bay and hopefully spot sea lions and seals soaking up the sun.

Sunday 1st May

Start the day with a hearty breakfast and beach/bush walk before packing up in time to visit the hippie craft bus at Papatowai. Wander through lush primordial rainforest to Purakanui Falls & enjoy the stunning wild beauty of Purakanui Bay. Coffee and cake at Lumberjacks in Owaka before heading back to Dunedin. Arrival time back in Dunedin is approximately 7.00pm.
